Breaking Bad, The Final Episodes (aka Season Five: Part Two, or Season Five: B/Season Six):
Walter White now has big problems to face: his DEA agent brother-in-law Hank and Hank's wife Marie (Skyler's sister) know about Walt's secret life as a drug kingpin. He is also starting to become distant from Jesse Pinkman and Saul Goodman, and now must deal with his new partnership with Lydia, Todd, and Declan. His life begins to spiral out of control, and Walt decides he needs to finish what he started, and right the wrongs he's caused. Bryan Cranston probably gives the performance of his acting career in this half-season, showing both sides of Walter, back-to-back: the ruthless and manipulative drug lord, and the loving family man. Aaron Paul shows his darker side in this season, as Jesse Pinkman is probably in one of the worst spots he's been in throughout the entire series run. Anna Gunn does a great job showing the emotional troubles Skyler White is going through. Dean Norris' Hank is much more of the good guy of this season, and you kind of root for him for most of the season. Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, and Bob Odenkirk all do great jobs with their characters as well, especially Odenkirk, as Saul is now less of a comedic relief character and more serious. Laura Fraser and Jesse Plemons return as Lydia and Todd, respectively, and play much more villainous roles this time around, and you really start to despise their characters. Michael Bowen returns as Jack, Todd's evil uncle, and Kevin Rankin also returns as Jack's right-hand man Kenny. Steven Michael Quezada, Lavell Crawford, comedian Bill Burr, Charles Baker, Matt L. Jones, Louis Ferreira, Emily Rios, Carmen Serano, Larry Hankin, Adam Godley, and Jessica Hecht return from previous seasons, and all do good jobs, especially Crawford and Burr, who make a great duo. This season has some of the best episodes of the entire series, especially the final three episodes, including "Ozymandias" (directed by Rian Johnson, director of Brick and Looper), which is the most intense episode of the series; "Granite State", an extended episode which sets up for the finale; and "Felina", the final episode of the series which is also extended in length and wraps up everything perfectly. The final two episodes are 75 minutes long, and both are the only episodes to feature the entire extended main theme. These final episodes are the most intense and satisfying of the entire series. Breaking Bad: The Final Episodes (Season Five: Part Two) has the best episodes of the series, and is one of the most satisfying TV finales ever. It really wraps it all up nicely and is a great close to the series. It's sad to see it go, but all good (and bad) things must come to an end. 5/5 stars.
